The client
Views from Japan is a travel service start-up who help people find more meaningful Japan experiences. Blending thoughtful writing with stunning photography from their founder Ben Richards, it offers a more intimate perspective than traditional travel media — focusing on the quiet moments, neighbourhoods, and personal narratives that shape the country.
They offer:
- Free location guides for regions across Japan
- Paid in-depth guides and books via their Shopify-powered shop
- One-to-one planning sessions with insider recommendations
- Full trip itineraries (“Journeys”) for travellers who want deeper support
The challenge
The challenge was to translate the design into a fully functional website with a user-friendly CMS, while integrating seamlessly with Shopify and Google Analytics. We carried out a UX review to make a number of refinements that improved accessibility and overall usability. As their first official website, Views from Japan needed a platform that could house a wide variety of content and services — while still feeling simple, structured, and easy to use.Key challenges included:
- Integrating Shopify into Webflow so users could browse guides, purchase ebooks, and move smoothly between platforms
- Implementing an intuitive search to help users find locations, guides, and planning resources quickly
- Building an intuitive CMS in Webflow that would allow the Views from Japan team to easily manage and adjust their website without the need for developers.
The website was beautifully designed by Product Designer Willem Purdy.
Technology & Execution
The site was fully built in Webflow, using a custom CMS to manage guides, regions, journeys, and articles. We integrated Shopify to handle product sales, implemented a search feature to help users quickly find what they need, and developed clean, modular components to support future growth.
